The “Solar Water Lantern” a distinguished innovation in the
“Science Festival 2020”
Al Ain University students from both campuses, Al Ain and Abu Dhabi, participated in the Abu Dhabi Science Festival 2020, held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, organized by the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK).
AAU students participated in providing; workshops, educational and recreational activities which are designed to discover the creativity of each person, and motivate students in the educational foundations of: science, technology, engineering, and mathematics of different ages. Where, the participation of the AAU annually aims to promote the student's communication skills and self- confidence.
The Abu Dhabi Science Festival aims to inspire generation in the fields of science and technology to encourage them to choose future educational and professional paths in various
fields. It also highlights various educational activities, interactive exhibits and amazing performances. In addition, the festival created a platform “Mubtaker 2020” for talented creators to showcase their ideas and creativity.
Within this initiative, Dr. Nuha Hamada from the College of Engineering (Abu Dhabi Campus) in cooperation with Mr. Mohsen Ibrahim created a project "Solar Water Lantern" which is a lantern with a distinctive aesthetic shape that can be hung on street pylons or trees that extracts water from the air and draws its energy from the solar panels installed in it. The innovation contributes in improving the environment and quality of life, whether in the UAE or in countries that suffer from high humidity. It also reduces moisture and generates fresh water that can be used in multiple ways.
About the innovation, Dr. Nuha said: “This innovation came in line with the National Climate Change Plan of the United Arab Emirates 2017-2050, which reflects the country's current trend towards sustainable development, raising the quality of life and transforming climate difficulties into innovation and development projects”.
It is worth to mention that, the Abu Dhabi Science Festival is an annual event that brings the wondrous world of science to the UAE, with an amazing variety of fun, filled with scientific activities by exploring the workshops, shows, and exhibits through organized school tours and family visits.
