Research Worksheet due Tuesday July 5
Name _______________________________________
Complete the following:
1. A leading producer of paper products wanted to increase their sales of paper cups. They set up a
test program in local supermarkets. Identical 8 ounce paper cups were packaged in two ways: half
of the stock was packaged in the present plain boxes, while the other half was packaged in bright
colored boxes. Sales volume was recorded for a period of six months. At the conclusion of the
study, it was found that the cups packaged in the bright colored boxes significantly outsold the
cups in the plain packages.
Hypothesis: Color of the packaging will affect the sales
Independent Variable: _______color or packaging_____________________________________
Dependent Variable: ____________sales________________________________
Experimental Group: ___________bright colored packages_________________________________
Control Group:__________________________plain colored packages__________________
2. Two groups of rats are placed in a cage with a maze. The time it takes for each rat to reach the
goal box is recorded. One group of rats is deprived of food for 24 hours before running on the
maze. The other group is fed 1 hour before the maze trials. All other conditions for the two
groups are the same.
