1. Case 12: Requested Removal (Kassandra Hidalgo) Reggie is a BCBA who was recently assigned a new learner, Alex, through his ABA agency for home- based intervention services. On his first day at Alex’s home, Reggie discovers that Alex’s parents are both men. Reggie is not comfortable within the home, so he asks to be removed from the case and to

have one of the agency’s other BCBAs take over supervisory responsibilities (Sush et al., 2021).

Applicable Ethics Code(s) 1.07 Cultural Responsiveness and Diversity 1.10 Awareness of Personal Biases and Challenges Rationale for Chosen Code(s): 1.07 - This code requires BCBAs to be aware of and respect the cultural diversity of clients. Reggie's discomfort with Alex's parents due to their same-sex relationship shows the lack of cultural and respect for diversity. 1.10 - This code mandates that BCBAs should be aware of their own personal biases and take steps to ensure that these biases do not affect their professional work. Reggie's request to be removed from the case due to his discomfort indicates that he is allowing his personal biases to interfere with his professional responsibilities. Code Violation? Yes 1.Do you agree with the Code(s) as identified by your colleague? Are there others that you would add?

  • Yes, all team members agree, no other codes were added 2.If this is a Code violation, what is the ethical course of action? -To address the ethical course of action Reggie should seek supervision and training to address his discomfort and biases. If he is unable to overcome his biases, he should be reassigned from the case. 3.What, if anything, could have been done to prevent this situation?

Applicable Ethics Code(s) 1.07 Cultural Responsiveness and Diversity

Nondiscriminatio n Rationale for Chosen Code(s): 1.07 Cultural Responsiveness and Diversity: This situation involves repeated sexist, racist, and ableist comments, indicating a lack of cultural responsiveness and awareness of diversity. The BCBA supervisor's response that the learner must "become accustomed to these types of comments" shows a failure to address these biases and support a diverse and environment. 1.08 Nondiscrimination: The discriminatory comments towards Kendi, Sara, and the learner clearly violate the principle of nondiscrimination. The BCBA supervisor’s dismissive response suggests a failure to uphold this standard and to ensure a inclusive work environment for all parties involved. Code Violation? Yes

1. Do you agree with the Code(s) as identified by your colleague? Are there others that you would add? Yes, all team members agree with these codes. 2. If this is a Code violation, what is the ethical course of action? Yes this is a code violation, The BCBA supervisor should take immediate steps to address the discriminatory behavior reported by Kendi and Sara. This includes investigating the reports of sexist, racist, and ableist comments thoroughly. Implementing policies and procedures to prevent future instances of discrimination and harassment. Ensuring a safe and supportive working environment for the learner, Kendi, and Sara. - 3. What, if anything, could have been done to prevent this situation? The BCBA supervisor could have set clear policies and training programs on cultural responsiveness and nondiscrimination for all employees from the beginning. Cleaning esblishing an environment where discrimination and harassment are not tolerated, and concerns can be reported and addressed correctly.

  1. Complete the Discussion Question(s) for each scenario (from Sush & Najdowski, 2022). Note, if no Discussion Questions are included with the assigned Case Scenario, this may be skipped.
  1. Upon hearing the statements of Kendi and Sara, how would you suggest their BCBA supervisor respond?
  • Upon hearing the concerns of Kendi and Sara, the BCBA supervisor should have acknowledge their concerns and made a commitment to address these issues. Initiate an investigation into the reported comments and take appropriate action against those responsible for the discriminatory behavior. Provide immediate support to Kendi, Sara, and the learner, ensuring their safety and well-being in the workplace. Lastly, checking on Kendi and Sara regularly to ensure their well-being. Deliverable
