INTRODUCTION OF THE PROJECT

GENERIC DRUGS :

A generic drug is identical or bioequivalent to a brand drug in dosage form , strength ,route of administration ,quality,performance, characteristics and intended use a) Generic drugs are allowed for sale after the patent on the original drug expire because active chemical present is same. b)Although they may not be associated with a particular company , generic drugs are usually subjected to government regulations in the countries in which they are dispensed c) They are labeled with the name of the name of manufacturer and a generic Nonproprietary name (ie. the name of the active ingredients in medicine that is decided by the expert committee and is understood internationally ) Example: paracetamol or acetaminophen is the nonproprietary name of medicine and which is sold by the proprietary name or brand name as crosin , dola 650 Page no :

increasing day by day specially in several ill

health conditions such as diabetes ,

cardiovascular and microbial diseasrs โ€ฆ.etc

2. When any patent expires it allows generic

manufacturer to prepare and develop

regulatory procedures

3. The scope is also increases due to para IV

fillings and bipolar provisions

4. So the scope of generic manufacturing also

increase.

1) PARACETAMOL :

Generic name: paracetamol/acetaminophen

Brand name : Crocin,Metacin,Meftal,Tylenol and dolo 650 โ€ฆ.etc Medicinal uses : Antipyretic, painkiller. Mechanism of Action : Paractetamol ( acetaminophen) Penetrates the blood brain barrier Inhibit cyclooxygenase (cox)enzyme AND blocks the formation and release of prostaglandin(PGE)in CNS AND ANTIPYRETIC EFFECT

Route of administration : oral , rectal and IV

Generic name : Albuterol Brand name : asthalin repsule (1000rs) ,ventolin(128rs Uses : relieve symptoms of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) Mechanism of action : Albuterol acts on beta- 2 adrenergic receptors to relax the bronchial smooth muscle. Route of administration : normally delivered through the inhaled route while intravenous salbutamol is used when children are unresponsive to inhaled treatment. 4) Aspirin :

Generic Name : acetylsalicylic acid , ASPIWELL-75,

Aspergum , bufferin.

Brand Name : Ecosprin, Sprin, Aspro, Eprin and

Delisprin. Uses : Daily low-dose aspirin is a blood thinning medicine. Aspirin is known as a salicylate and a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID).analgesic, antipyretic Mechanism of action: Mainly blocks the prostaglandin. acetyl group of acetylsalicylic acid binds with a serine residue of the cyclooxygenase- 1 (COX-1) enzyme, leading to irreversible inhibition. Route of administration: the oral, rectal, and intravenous (IV) route Dosage: It is available in different doses, the lowest being 81 mg, also called a baby aspirin. Page no 11

Generic name : Zyrtec , cetirizine hydrochloride

Brand name: Cetzine Tab Glaxosmithkline Alerid 10 mg Tablet 10s Cipla Cetcip 10 mg Tablet 10s Cipla Cetrine Tab Dr. Reddy Uses: it is an antihistamine used to treat both seasonal and perennial allergy Symptoms like : watery eyes , runny nose, itching eyes,sneezing also use to treat hives (skin rashes) Mechanism of action : non-sedating antihistamine that works by blocking histamine (H-1) receptors on cells. Dose: use this drug exactly as directed on label or prescribed by your doctor. you may take it with or

without food .The chewable tablet must be chewed before you swallow it

Side effects:

โ— feeling sleepy and tired. โ— headaches. โ— dry mouth. โ— feeling sick (nausea) โ— feeling dizzy. โ— stomach pain. Mechanism of action: proton pump inhibitor

route of administration : an intravenous infusion

for 20- 30 minutes , oral โ€ฆ

Dose : Doctors suggest taking omeprazole 30 โ€“ 60

8) Atorvastatin :

Generic name: atorvastatin , fluvastatin

Brand name : Lipitor

Uses : used to treat high cholesterol. It is

name Lipitor (atorvastatin calcium).

Mechanism of action: it is type of statin that

lowers the level of cholesterol in the blood. All

statins, including atorvastatin, prevent the

production of cholesterol in the liver by blocking

HMG-CoA reductase, an enzyme that makes

cholesterol.

Route of administration : orally

DOSE : 10 mg, 20 mg , 40 mg ,80 mg

Side effects: Joint pain, Insomnia ,

Urinary tract infection, Nausea.

Loss of appetite

Contraindications:Hypersensitivity to

atorvastatin.
