A generic drug is identical or bioequivalent to a brand drug in dosage form , strength ,route of administration ,quality,performance, characteristics and intended use a) Generic drugs are allowed for sale after the patent on the original drug expire because active chemical present is same. b)Although they may not be associated with a particular company , generic drugs are usually subjected to government regulations in the countries in which they are dispensed c) They are labeled with the name of the name of manufacturer and a generic Nonproprietary name (ie. the name of the active ingredients in medicine that is decided by the expert committee and is understood internationally ) Example: paracetamol or acetaminophen is the nonproprietary name of medicine and which is sold by the proprietary name or brand name as crosin , dola 650 Page no :
