Student Journey through

studentcentral

What does a student see on studentcentral? A companion for the

“Student journey through studentcentral flow diagram”

How to use this guide…

  • This guide will give an idea of the student journey through the University of Brighton’s studentcentral system.
  • It should be used in conjunction with the “Student Journey through studentcentral Flow Chart”.
  • The numbers in the top right of each slide correspond to the numbers on this flow chart.
  • The colours of the background denote the section being discussed, this usually denotes the system the information is drawn from (i.e. eVision, VLE, O365).

Activation

  • Students with applications (online or UCAS) are emailed and invited to activate their accounts and then access studentcentral via:
  • http://www.brighton.ac.uk/studying- here/activate-your-user-account.aspx
  • Students never log into eVision directly.
  • Upon following the link the students are directed through a 5 step process to get their first access to studentcentral.

Activation

  • The final step of the process directs them to the homepage of studentcentral (https://studentcentral.brighton.ac.uk/) so they can log in for the first time.
  • Instructions state wait 15 minutes from activating account until logging in.
  • This page is the same for all studentcentral users, whatever stage they are logging into.

Applicant Area

  • Once the student has activated their account and logged into studentcentral for the first time they are presented with the Applicant Area, also known as the Applicant Portal and the Applicant Tab. However these are all the same thing and are a window on SITS eVision giving students access to their personal information (Academic services).

Applicant Area

  • At this stage there is no change to the applicant area, students can still click on this area and complete tasks such as DBS checks and get information on accommodation.

New Student Area

  • The morning after the student accepts an offer (UF or CF) AND the New Student Area has been set as available (eg July 7 th 2014) they see the extra New Student Area tab after the Applicant Area tab. Typically between July and mid-August

New Student Area

  • This is an example of the school specific element from the School of Education. This page should include:
  • A welcome from the head of school,
  • Information for preparing for the course
  • Timetable for week one
  • Timetable for term one/semester one
  • Who to contact in your school if you have a question.

Enrol Tab

  • Once it is determined that the student had met the entry requirements they are applicant transferred to the enrolment process.
  • At this stage the Applicant Area becomes the Enrol Tab.
  • The Enrol Tab is still an interface with the eVision software and therefore looks very similar to the Applicant Area.
  • The purpose of the Enrol Tab is to ensure that all students have undertaken the online enrolment before arriving at the in-person enrolment during welcome week.

New Student Area

  • The New Student Area once launched doesn’t change.
  • Information at a school level is added in the lead up to the start of term.

Launch of New Tabs

  • Once the student has completed the online enrolment, the next morning studentcentral launches a number of new tabs that will stay with students through their course.
  • This act is triggered by the online enrolment and the in-person enrolment does not have an impact upon what students see on studentcentral
  • These tabs are described in detail on the following slides.
