(^) Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was “ the only man [we can say leader] in history who was supremely successful on both the secular and religious level ”, says Michael Hart in his book The 100: A Ranking of the Most Influential Persons in History. (^) His choice, can never be anything less than extraordinary.There are many characteristics that make Muhammad (PBUH) a successful leader and many lessons lay in the Prophet’s (PBUH) leadership that is still relevant for Muslims today. Let us elucidate what makes the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) an excellent leader and what we can learn from him.
(^) He possessed excellent leadership qualities which revolutionized the lives of millions and is still valuable. The qualities which he had are : (^) Self confidence and determination – He believed that he can bring change to the world, he had “imaan” (^) Vision – He had vision of a peaceful world where people will live in peace. (^) Commitment – Even when his uncle Abu Talib said to retreat from the cause, he never retreated and stayed on the divine path. (^) Farsightedness – Prophet Muhammad had unparalleled foresight, The treaty of hudabiyah is a glittering example of leadership trait of prophet Muhammad, the treaty also led to fateh Makkah after 22 months.
(^) Inspiring – It is through his high spirit and inspiring leadership that the prophet successfully transformed his people from the state of ignorance, slavery and also about time when women were treated as chattels to give value to all these things and he continues to inspire billions even after 1300 year’s of his death. (^) Truthfullness – Prophet Muhammad always spoke truth his entire life. Even his enemies used to testify that they have never seen an honest and truthful person like him. (^) Epitome of ethics – Personification of goodness and morality, Even when he was abused and stone pelted and also made fun of by others, he never got offended but prayed for their well being. (^) Kind hearted and generous – Prophet Muhammad always taught love, kindness and compassion to his people. He advised to show kindness to sick, old, women and to animals. (^) Strategic – the art of planning and directing overall military operations and movements in a war or battle. It was seen in the battle of uhud where muhammad placed horses strategically on the mountain and in final wave covered his enemies. (^) Communication – non hierarchical, he used to sit with his followers and eat with them.
