PARTS OF DEFINITION
a definition has two fundamental parts, the initial segment of the definition represents what is being characterized in that definition and the other piece of the definition is the arrangement of words used to characterize whatever the definition clarifies. To simplify this, the two sections are given a specific name and follow a design, that is
DEFININDUM
The piece of the definition that is clarified by the remainder of the words is called definindum. As a result, it stands for anything, a phrase, a word, a symbol, or a notion that we wish to define. For example, Wine is an alcoholic beverage made from fermented grapes. The Definindum here is “Wine” and the remaining sentence is constituted as the Definien.
DEFINIENS
Definien refers to an elucidation, which might take the shape of a sentence, that explains the term, symbol, or concept that is the definition's definindum portion. For example, Gurupurab is the principal festival of Sikh’s in India which celebrates the life and teachings of 10 Sikh gurus. Definindum: Gurupurab Definien: is the principal festival of Sikh’s in India which celebrates the life and teachings of 10 Sikh gurus.

PURPOSE/USE OF DEFINITON
- INCREASE VOCABULARY : When learning a new language, it is necessary to define new terms in order to learn additional words and expand our lexicon.
- EXPLAIN ANYTHING CLEARLY : Unclarity of terms while speaking or listening to a language makes it difficult to comprehend, which is why defining the words decreases misunderstandings.
- ELIMINATE AMBIGUITY OF ANY WORD : When a word has numerous meanings and is used in an ambiguous manner, it is critical to apprehend it and hence defining the particular word eliminates the perplexity.
- EXPLAIN A WORD THEORITICALLY : Many terminologies and words are difficult to comprehend without a clear and accurate definition.
- TO INFLUENCE ATTITUDES : In a culture where people define terms for social or personal gain, definition plays an important role in influencing attitudes.
- REDUCES VAGUENESS : When the meaning of a term is dependent on the context, and there is no clarity regarding the context, the word appears ambiguous and thus defining the word becomes crucial.
CLASSIFICATION OF DEFINITION
- STIPULATIVE DEFINITION : Stipulative definitions are definitions that are either new terms (neologisms) or that characterize recognizable words in manners so not quite the same as conventional utilization, that they may nearly seem, by all accounts, to be new words. Take the word ' mouse'. Today we partner this word with outside gadgets used to move the cursor to different areas on a PC screen. An age or so back this would have been thought crazy and unmarketable.
- LEXICAL DEFINITION : The definindum already has a meaning, according to a lexical definition. This term might be true or untrue depending on whether the report is truthful or erroneous. As a result, while the definition " the term 'bird' implies any warm-blooded vertebrate with feathers " is correct since it is a well-known fact, the definition " the word 'bird' denotes any two-footed mammal " would be deemed improper and imprecise, rendering it untrue.
- PRECISING DEFINITION : The goal of a precising definition is to make a word less ambiguous. There are some concepts in our language that require specific

CONCLUSION
Definitions are crucial in the legal field, just as they are in any other signs. Without accurate and clear definitions, codifying of laws is impossible. Generally, the second section of every codified law is usually made up of definitions. Lawmakers meticulously design all legal definitions to ensure that they meet all of these criterions for a perfect definition. Knowing the precise meanings of distinct legal terms can assist us in comprehending a variety of fundamental legal concepts.
