LANGUAGE
By
para,
we
mean
"like". Hence
para
language is like language.
It
implies
how
a
person
says
something.
It
is
non-verbal
because
it
does
not
consist
of
words.
In
paa
language
we
examine
the
sound
of
someone
speech.
Para
language
includes
tone
of
voice,
pitch,
rhythm,
volume,
pause
or
break
in
a
sentence
etc.
This
language
influence
meaning
and
convey
a
message
on
careful
observation
we
find
that
a
speaker
uses
a
vast
range
of
sign
and
signal.
Voice
Voice
is the first signal
that
we
receive
or
use.
It
tells
us
so
much about
the
Speaker
sex,
background,
education, training
and
temperament.
The
clearer
the
voice
more
eftective
the
communication.
One
must
care
of
the
following
points
in
the
use
of
voice.
(a)
Pitch
Variation:
Most
of
us
introduce
wide
variation
in
pitch
while
speaking
These
variations
are
necessary
to
catch
business
attention
e.g.
speaking
at
length
on
the
same
level
of
pitch
makes
the
speech
MONOTONOUS'
or
Boring.
One
good
way
to
improve
a
pitch
variation
is
to
observe
other
speaking
and
to
benefit
through
their
suggestions.

Speaking
Speed:
We
speak
at
different
speed
on
different
occasion
and
while
conveying
different
parts
of
a
message.
As
a
general
rule,
we
should
present
the
easy
of
a
message
at
a
brisk
pace
(very
fast
speed)
and
difficult,
complicated
and
highly
technical
part
of
message
at
a
slower
pace.
(c)
Pause
:
The
speaking speed
is
also
accompanied
by
pauses.
We
can
not
and
should
not
go
on
speaking
without
pausing.
Incorrect
use
of
pauses
can
create
problems.
Pause
can
be
highly
effective
in
emphasizing
the
upcoming subject
and
in
gaining
the
listener
attention.

Volume
Variation
: A speech
should
be
loud
enough
to
the
audience,
not
to
loud
to
put
them
off.
The
loudness
of
a
voice
should
be
adjusted
according
to
the
size
of
the
audience,
volume
variations
put

into
speaking.

Non-fluencies
:
Utterances
like
OH', 'AH,
YOU
KNOW,
'OK
etc.
are

non-fluencies.
They
give

Advantages
of
Para
Language

Language

2. PARA LANGUAGE

By para, we mean "like". Hence para language is like language. It implies how a

person says something. It is non-verbal because it does not consist of words. In paa

language we examine the sound of someone speech. Para language includes tone of

voice, pitch, rhythm, volume, pause or break in a sentence etc. This language influence meaning and convey a message on careful observation we find that a speaker uses a vast range of sign and signal.

Voice

Voice is the first signal that we receive or use. It tells us so much about the

and temperament. The^ clearer^ the^ voice

more eftective the communication. One must care of the following points in the

use of voice. (a) Pitch Variation: Most of us introduce wide variation in pitch while speaking These variations are necessary to catch business attention e.g. speaking at length on the same level of pitch makes the speech MONOTONOUS' or Boring. One good way to improve a pitch variation is to observe other speaking and to benefit through their

suggestions.

(b) Speaking Speed: We speak at different speed on different occasion and while conveying different parts of a message. As a general rule, we should present the easy of a message at a brisk pace (very fast speed) and difficult, complicated and highly technical part of message at a slower pace.

(c) Pause^ : The^ speaking speed is^ also^ accompanied^ by^ pauses.^ We^ can^ not^ and

should not go on speaking without pausing. Incorrect use of pauses can create

problems. Pause^ can^ be^ highly^ effective^ in^ emphasizing^ the^ upcoming subject^

and in

gaining the^ listener^ attention.

(d) Volume^ Variation^ :^ A^ speech^ should^ be^ loud^ enough^ to^ the^ audience,^ not^

to loud to put them off. The loudness of a voice should be adjusted according to the size of the audience, volume variations put life into speaking.

(e) Non-fluencies : Utterances^ like^ OH', 'AH,^ YOU^ KNOW,^ 'OK^ etc.^ are^

known as non-fluencies. They give the speaker, breathing (space filler) and the audience time to think over but has been said (grasp breaks).

Advantages of Para Language
