Observation and Reflection on Child Development Early Childhood Education (E.Ds.), Walden University EDDD 8080 Observation and Reflection on Child Development The aim of this study is to use descriptive stories that are based on observations of kids between the ages of 3 and 5 to illustrate each developmental stage. This essay will also analyze the relationships between the many developmental domains of the youngsters who were the subject of the observation. This session will also discuss how my decisions regarding how to observe children, potential challenges, and prospective data-gathering strategies were informed by my observation experience.

Reflection and Observation: Child Development Anyone working with or instructing young children needs to be able to observe youngsters well. While watching children, there are a few objectives you have to keep in mind. These objectives, according to Laureate Education (producer), 2015, include letting the child be the teacher, maintaining an open mind, refraining from making assumptions about the child's abilities at the time, using specific, objective terms, being aware of your own feelings while observing, and being aware of the child's feelings regarding being observed. The focus areas are social-emotional, cognitive, linguistic, and physical growth, among other things, and the observer should pay attention to all of them. By focusing on these subjects, you can affect the ambiance and culture of your classroom. I've previously supervised infants and young children. Today, my focus will be on preschoolers' development. I want to know how each age group stacks up against one another. Social-emotional Children in preschool are growing social and emotional abilities that will help them engage with others. Children who possess these skills will be better equipped to interact with others and make use of the benefits that social support offers in terms of supporting their growth and functioning in a healthy way. According to the California Dept. of Education (2015c), children who have positive, ongoing relationships with adults are more likely to develop socially and emotionally well. They are discovering effective communication skills as well as how to create and maintain friendships. They are learning how to establish and maintain friendships as well as how to communicate effectively. They really begin to explore their own feelings in this environment, as well as the feelings of people around them. A young child was seen in the video

para. 1). Oral and written language, language awareness, and phonemic mindfulness (letter hints) are all included in this developmental domain. Preschoolers have a wealth of language knowledge at this age; they understand phrases, make up words they don't know, recognize rhyming words, and can organize sounds and words according to meaning (Anthony, 2019). The development of a child's language skills and ability to read are closely intertwined. Children learn how to read between the ages of three and five, as well as how to follow verbal directions and develop their listening abilities (Murphy, 2017). Speaking in whole sentences to one another and to their caregivers, children were seen in the movie. The kids in the movie displayed clear communication as they improved their language abilities. A caregiver was seen reading aloud from a book to a group of girls while they were seated in one scene. The youngsters' vocabulary grew because of this, which aided in the growth of their language and reading skills. Physical Physical development includes the development of both fine and gross motor skills as well as an increase in size and strength. Toddlers devote a large amount of their waking hours to their physical development, according to the California Dept. of Education (2015b). The physical development of a child is significantly influenced by their food and general health (Fraser-Thill, 2019). Preschoolers begin to master and improve their fine and gross motor abilities by employing hand-eye coordination, solving puzzles, using writing instruments, riding a tricycle, and climbing. Most of the children in the video were engaged in physical activity of some type. The development of both fine and gross motor skills was illustrated in one situation by a girl writing with a marker. The movie depicts children riding tricycles, playing with puzzles and blocks, and climbing on playground apparatus (Laureate Educ., 2015b).

Interrelationship between Domains In the video, a little toddler can be seen reading a book to her caregiver. Children employ each of the four areas of development when they learn to read. The language domain is applicable since reading is a form of communication. The child reading the book is not only developing her fine motor skills, a part of physical development, by deciphering the printed words, but she is also using her finger to trace the words and turn the pages of the book. As stated by Fravel (2013), "reading also involves the social/emotional domain in an individual's ability to persist and take risks learning a new skill and in an individual's ability to relate to and understand book characters' motivations." The scene in the movie where the children play with the trucks together is another example of how the developmental domains are interconnected. The kids' physical development is aided by moving the toy trucks. The fact that the children are playing together demonstrates that their social and emotional abilities are also being used. The kids must be able to talk to one another for them to play together. As they play together, the kids are making good use of their developing language skills. Children can improve their social, emotional, cognitive, and physical skills as well as experience healthy growth when they are allowed to interact and communicate with other children. A caregiver is shown in the video hoisting a child in a wheelchair onto a tricycle so that another child can ride him. While the boy was riding, the caregiver gave the girl specific instructions on how swiftly to pedal. This scene served as an illustration of how the areas of physical, cognitive, social, and emotional growth interact. The small child's usage of the pedals and grips on the tricycle revealed her physical development. The girl was leading by social and emotional example by interacting with the challenged child and showing empathy for him. This

The knowledge I was able to compile from the observations has improved my comprehension of children's development, learning, and the connections between different domains of development. I found that every child matures and hits particular milestones in a different way, regardless of age. Infants grow and develop their developmental domains more slowly, but as they mature, become more self-reliant, and become more active, their skills get stronger, and each domain gets greater development. Even while each child learns and develops in their own special way and at their own pace, there are some developmental milestones that they all attain by a certain age. Infants have limited skills in each area, but toddlers' skills start to grow and get stronger as they get older and gain movement. These skills practically become competence when a child is between the ages of three and five. Preschoolers are more vocal, gregarious, and active, which aids in their ability to develop and maintain friendships. Each area of development is connected to and dependent upon the others to grow and develop. Even though there are standards for children in each age group, the child can achieve each standard by utilizing the developmental domains, which are interconnected. If one is weaker than necessary, the other developmental domains may suffer. The insights make clear what I am studying in this course about early life. I now understand the value of play for children of all ages and how it enhances their academic achievement. Since play develops children's social and emotional, cognitive, linguistic, and physical domains and promotes their physical health and well-being, it is essential for children's growth. The observations drawn from the video clips corroborated this. I also learned the importance of a caregiver in a child's growth and how to provide a kid with the help they need.

The stages of a child's development are related and are indicators of how successful they will be in the future. A child's interactions with other children might reveal if they are developmentally ahead of schedule, on level with their peers, or behind. Observations help in keeping track of a child's growth and progress in each developmental domain.
