  1. Describe and compare the mechanisms of water and mineral uptake in plants.
  2. Some plants have evolved to be carnivorous. Giving examples, describe how such plants are able to catch their prey and why it is necessary for them to do so.
  3. Give a concise, illustrated account of a liverwort species of your choice. Refer in your answer to both the gametophyte and sporophyte structures, and the habitat preferences of the species you select.
  4. Write a concise account of the relationships between the gross morphological features of wood and the tissues (refer to both tissue types and their distribution patterns) that give rise to the features you describe.
  5. Give an illustrated account of diversity in the Pteridophytes, referring to classification, life cycles and plant structure.
  6. With reference to floral structure , give an illustrated account of evolution in the Angiosperms. Refer to a range of families with which you are familiar.
  7. Write concise notes on two of the following: a) The life cycle of Pinus b) Monocotyledonous plants c) The Leguminosae (Fabaceae).
