WHAT IS ABNORMAL PSYCHOLOGY?
its an understanding that is concerned with knowing about the nature, causes and
treatment of the the mental disorders
The other name for the Abnormal psychology is “PSYCHOPATHOLOGYˮ
INICATORS OF THE ABNORMALITY 
There is no single indicator to determine the abnormality so there are different
indicators to the abnormality:
 Subjective distress: if person experience is experiencing psychological pain or
distress then that truly indicating the abnormality (it can include excessing
anxiety and much more)
 Maladaptiveness: basically maladaptive behavior often an indicator often an
indictor of the abnormality (maladaptive behavior basically interferes with our
abilities and well being and can disturb our daily activities)
 Statistical deviancy: the abnormal itself means that “away from the normalˮ.
we cannot justify the abnormal behavior without the statistics . The clinicians
and researcher often administer test to get the accurate measurement

 Violation of the societal rule or the norms: all the cultures have there own rules and norms and if any individual is not following the norms or rules their behavior is considered abnormal  Social discomfort: When someone tend to break unwritten social rules then an individual may feel discomfort and unease ( example: you are riding an empty bus and almost all the seats are empty and an individual came and sit with you than you would feel discomfort that why he or she sat with me)  Irrationality and unpredictable : we all expect the people to behave in a certain way (example: suddenly a man beside you started crying and yelling you would consider as abnormal) the behaviors that are unpredictable than its indicate the abnormality  Dangerousness: an individual who is a danger to him or her or to another person is psychological abnormal (but this cant be the sole indictor to the abnormality)
