Pheochromocytoma- Tumor that grows on the adrenal glands. Cushing's syndrome- when body produces too much cortisol hormone ( Cortisol is the primary stress hormone ) hyperthyroidism- too much thyroid. Renal arterial stenosis… narrowing of one or both of renal arteries Essential ( primary ) hypertension :- In 90% of the time hypertension happens without a clear underlying reason. related to blood vesicles :- vasoconstriction inflammation platelet aggregation related to kidney :- water retantion aldosterone ( cause it promotes Na+ reabsorption ) related to heart :- inotropic effect ( affects contractility (FOC) ) chronotropic effects ( affects heart rate ) the risk factors for essential hypertension are :- old age obesity high salt intake sedentary life styles Secondary hypertension :- 10% of cases and it has identifiable causes renal parenchymal disease- enlarging of the kidney due to fluid chronic renal failure low renal blood flow ( pheochromocytoma ) atherosclerosis fibromuscular dysplasia - narrowing or thickening of arteries in your body ( affects young women ) Why is it important to treat hypertension
