Developmental Changes in Memory
Working Memory Links to
Development
Older children have greater capacity inworking memory
Children who have better working memoryare more advanced in reading comprehension, math skills, and problem solving
Are these differences due to brain maturationor automaticity of cognitive skills?
Deeper processing,
better memory
Consistent repetition of
information over time
Adds to distinctiveness

If the balloons popped the sound wouldn’t be able tocarry since everything would be too far away from thecorrect floor. A closed window would also prevent thesound from carrying, since most buildings tend to bewell insulated. Since the whole operation depends ona steady flow of electricity, a break in the middle of thewire would also cause problems. Of course, the fellowcould shout, but the human voice is not loud enough tocarry that far. An additional problem is that a stringcould break on the instrument. Then there could be noaccompaniment to the message. It is clear that the bestsituation would involve less distance. Then therewould be fewer potential problems. With face to facecontact, the lesser number of things could go wrong.
