Infant Toddler Observation (Submit 1 infant and 1 toddler summary.)
Prior to your visit, read pages 55-91 in Bredekamp and Copple’s book on
Developmentally Appropriate Practice. In your observation, you will be focusing on the
children’s developmental milestones, aspects of the environment, and relationships
between the caregivers and children.
I. Developmental Milestones-Infants and Toddlers
A. Describe one child that you are observing. Comment on age, physical
attributes, ethnicity, etc.
B. Using the charts on pages 70-71, list 2-3 examples of behaviors you
observe for that child across the domains listed
1. Interest in others
2. Self Awareness
3. Motor Milestones/Eye-Hand Coordination
4. Language and Communication
5. Physical, Spatial, Temporal Awareness
6. Purposeful Actions
7. Expression of Feelings

In your observation, you will be focusing on the children’s developmental milestones, aspects of the environment, and relationships between the caregivers and children. I. Aspects of the Infant-Toddler Environment-Using the Developmentally Appropriate Practices Book, pages 74-79, cite 5 examples from your visit of appropriate and/or inappropriate practices for children ages birth to three years. If citing a practice that is not appropriate, suggest a simple way to improve the situation. III. Relationships Between the Caregivers and Children –Using the Developmentally Appropriate Practices Book, pages 72-74, cite 5 examples from your visit of appropriate and/or inappropriate practices for children ages birth to three years. Again, if citing a practice that is not appropriate, suggest a simple way to improve the situation.
