Hulme Hall and Burkhardt House has an active community led by the JCR student committee and Residential Life team. A wide variety of events take place over the year including formal dinners, pub quizzes, exercise classes and more. The hall also has an on-site gym, library space, squash court, sports court, and bar.
The hall is one of the oldest halls of residence at The University of Manchester, and has recently undergone renovation in all student bedrooms and communal areas. The accommodation packages available include catered or self-catered and ensuite or non-ensuite.
The Hulme Hall Trust Fund offers full accommodation bursaries to Manchester Access Programme (MAP) students who choose to live at Hulme Hall and Burkhardt House for their first year at The University of Manchester. The bursary covers the full accommodation payment giving students the opportunity to engage with hall and University activities.
Prospective students should complete the application form which will be emailed out. MAP students will be given priority in the application process, however other applications will be reviewed based on the quality of the application and financial need. Applicants are advised to fill in the form as fully as possible; if needed this can continue onto an additional page.
Applications for the bursary will be reviewed by a panel of Trustees and Hall staff in June/July. If successful in the shortlisting process, applicants will be notified that they have received a conditional offer of a bursary. The conditional offer is dependent on their results in August, accepting their place at The University of Manchester and confirming their accommodation at Hulme Hall.
Partial bursaries are available to students who apply to return to the hall for a second or third year. The bursary amount is deducted from your accommodation fee, to give residents returning to hall the opportunity to contribute to the hall community.
Residents should complete the application form which will be circulated by the hall teams in Semester 2. Students must have submitted their application to the Accommodation Office requesting to return to Hulme Hall and Burkhardt House before the deadline. Applications will be reviewed based on the quality of the application, evidence of the student’s contribution to hall life and financial need; it is important that applicants complete the form as fully as possible and make the most of the word limit.
Applications will be reviewed by a panel of Trustees and Hall staff in April. Successful applicants will be notified in May, and the bursary award will be added to their accommodation account upon their return to the hall in September. Bursary recipients will be asked to submit a report detailing how the bursary has helped them.
At the end of the academic year, students are nominated by the JCR Committee and Hall Staff for a series of awards including the list below. There are also a series of fun and block awards to celebrate the end of the year.
