While the play is primarily built around the context of religious tensions and communal violence, it also provides a realistic depiction of the marginalized condition of women in Indian society throughout the latter half of 20th Century. This paper addresses the vulnerabilities and injustices faced by women in times of conflict, through a feminist psychoanalysis of the characters of Daksha (Hardika), Aruna and Smita. Drama in India has a 200 years long history, starting from ancient times of Bharata's Natyashastra' to the contemporary times of Asif Currimbhoy, Gurucharan Das, Girish Karnad, Vijaay Tendulkar, Manjula Padmanabhan, Mahesh Dattani etc. We have had our own different theaters and British legacy has also been there for a long time. Theatre in the British Raj became well established in the west in Bombay , in South in Madras, in East in Calcutta, in North in Varanasi - the four major epicenters of theatre in India paved the way for the modern Indian Drama.
