If the President can no longer serve, who becomes President? Vice President For example, President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in 1963. The same day, Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson became President. If both the President and the Vice President can no longer serve, who becomes President? Speaker of the House (of Representatives) This has never happened in American history.
