Ethical Issues raised by Social Networking
After Internet is introduced to the world, in 1971 the first message was “qwertyuiop”
was send as the first step in social networks. So the Bulletin Board System was the first
system which lead the users to communicate through the internet. Then in 1994
Geocities, the first social networking site was introduced. At first the social networking
sites provided facilities only to create websites, group them
according to cities. Later on these facilities turn into
more advanced functions like managing a user
profile, uploading images, video chatting, etc. with
the introduction of Facebook in 2004. Starting the
baby years of social network from BBS, AOL and
CompuServe to modern day social networking sites
there were lots of changes. Nowadays among all the
networking sites Facebook, Twitter, Myspace and
LinkedIn take the lead in the popularity. By January
2016 there are 100 million for LinkedIn, 1.550
million for Facebook and 320 million for Tweeter. There are more than 600 social
networking sites found on internet.

Here are the statistics of the social network users. When considering the ethical issues, there are some major issues in these social networking sites. The first is the user behavior the next is Privacy, then Cyberbullying, etc. when considering the user behaviors it is being noted that 55% of FB users remove people from their friends list due to offensive comments and unethical posts. When considering the FB user behavior issues, there are many questing that comes like; whether the person in one’s friend list is really who they claim to be or is everything post in FB is real?? Sadly no one can answer that questions. Almost many of the social networks are belong to US so according to their priority act, foreign intelligence and surveillance act, they get the right to access any ones information irrespective to who they are. This is a real privacy and ethical issue that countries face because of social networks. A few weeks back there was a post published in FB by a girl saying that a girl committed suicide due to a relationship failure. According to the post the offender was the girl’s lover and the reason for the suicide was two timing. This post went widely and people started to blame and post unethical images, posts etc. against that boy. But later it was revealed that the girl was not dead nor the post was real. Then the blames all again turn to the girl’s side and people started to feel pathetic about the boy and started to destroy the character of the girl.
