Instructor: Qazi Abdul Moqueet Date: 18/03/ Total Marks: 10 Due Date: 25/03/ Name: Muhammad Talha Waheed Reg. No. BEE Section: 02 Question No.1: After reading the case study “Late Confession”, discuss the ethical issues this case raises, both for Dr. Lewis and for University of Washington officials. Evaluate Jeanne Wilson’s analysis, especially as it might apply to engineers. Ethical Issues for Dr. Lewis: As Dr. Lewis cheated in his final exam of doctorate and he remains in the guilt of cheating throughout his career. He is of 82 years and still he is in guilt doing cheating is unethical but he decides to write a letter about his truth to university. So, university should forgive him because he is too old for any kind of action of sealing his degree. Ethical Issues for University of Washington Officials: According to the rules of University of Washington is a place where cheating is totally unethical. If university didn’t revoke the degree of Dr. Lewis many other students who are doing cheating would never feel guilty because they will have no fear of any action taken against him.
Jeanne Wilson’s Analysis: I agree with the Jeanne Wilson’s point that as lewis is old and he confess that he cheated in a exam. So, University should not revoke his degree. He cheated in one subject only he passed all other exams by his own. So, University should not revoke his degree. I also agree with his point that university should revoke the degrees of young students who cheated in exams. .
