EPQ Introduction

What is the EPQ?

A project based qualification that is equivalent to half an A-level. Three options: Written Report

  • 5000 word report
  • Log book
  • Presentation

Artefact and Report

  • Artefact
  • 1000+ word report
  • Log book
  • Presentation

Group Project

  • Groups of up to 4
  • Each member produces their own EPQ
  • Log book
  • Presentation

The log book

  • Forms a record of the your progress through the EPQ
  • Is the main source of marks for the EPQ
  • Can have additional pages added:
    • Mind maps, journal pages, Gantt charts, etc.
  • Is mostly filled in by you
    • 4 pages by the Supervisor
    • 1 page by the Coordinator

Choosing a title

  • Think of an area of interest for you
  • Think of reasons why this interests you
  • Try to develop these reasons into ideas for titles
  • Consider how you will try to answer your title

Problems with EPQ titles

  • Not enough resources
  • Not clear what the aim of the research was
  • Too much based on the student’s opinion
  • Multi part titles
  • Titles not definitive (To what extent…)
