The beads of a string spread on the floor can be considered as points on the
floor; the stars you see in the sky at night also appear like shining points in the
sky. These stars of various sizes have round shape and can be considered as
points of galaxy. Here the place of these points has more importance than the
size of them. Similarly, the point is a diagram, which is just a dot made by a pen

no direction. The point is the very first and basic element of design without which design cannot be made. All other design elements are made up of points. The paths of various movements of the points produce various types of lines. Or in other words - the set of points arranged like a chain of beads is a line. Lines can be drawn in a number of types and can be used in making design. If the two ends of a line meet each other, they form a shape.

2. LINE A line is a fundamental mark or stroke used in drawing in which the length is longer than the width. Two connected points form a line and every line has a length, width, and direction if it is straight. This image contains contour lines (the outline of the birds) and decoration lines (hatching). Uses A line that defines or bounds an edge, but not always the outside edge, could represent a fold or color change. A line that defines the edge of space can also be created by a gap of negative space. Many uses include to separate columns, rows of type, or to show a change in document type. Lines are used in linear shapes and patterns to decorate many different substrates, and can be used to create shadows representing tonal value, called hatching.

have too much of this design element, your space can quickly become dull, lacking the visual appeal that comes with vertical and dynamic lines.

  1. Vertical Lines Perpendicular to horizontal lines, verticals draws your eyes upward. For example, if your home boasts amazing tin ceiling tiles, a good interior designer will incorporate vertical lines that subconsciously lift your eyes up to highlight that feature. However, if vertical lines are used too frequently, it can cause people to feel confined.
  2. Dynamic Lines These lines suggest movement and stimulation. They are active and encourage your eyes to “move” in the direction of the line or notice the pattern. Zigzag, angular, and curved lines fall into this category, as each provides a different movement or effect on the feeling of a room. Zigzag and angular lines give energy and life to a room, while smooth and curvy lines promote softness, smoothness and balance. We can see these lines in action in our Gallery of custom homes. As homes go from traditional to transitional to eventually modern and contemporary, you can actually see the lines become cleaner and less detailed, less curvy and more angular. **LINES
