INTRODUCTION: Hello, my name is Martina, an aspiring actress who was accepted to study BA Acting and performance in London. I am going to show how to be chosen to study acting in universities and colleges where you can develop your skills and know better this industry world. I won’t to illustrate you huge of information here, you can simply search on the internet to have more knowledge about it. However, my principal goal is to create a simple guide, easy to comprehend, and also, to have a specific plan to follow. It is hard to find this online, so I would like to teach you some tricks and important things to do when you decide to apply to drama schools. Before starting, you must know a few words regarding this topic: DRAMA SCHOOL: an undergraduate or graduate school a college or university MONOLOGUES: a long speech performed by one person DIALOGS: a long or short performed by two or more people ACTING INDUSTRY: all business regarding the world of acting ( cinema and theatre) SELF-TAPE: a video audition where you act a scene in front of a camera AUDITION: a short performance that an actor, musician, dancer, etc. gives to show they are suitable for a particular play, film, show, etc.
STEP 2: TO BE AWARE OF STEPS One of my advice that I gave to people who asked me this is, t o BE AWARE OF AUDITION STEPS. I’m going to show you the general:
STEP 3: SET UP YOUR ROUTINE: When you will be busy, it may be di cult to complete all your tasks. I would suggest trying to make a table or setting up a daily routine where you do your work organized and have a good work-life balance. You need to know your duties and necessities from a social point of view or a personal pov. Also, Google Calander or ICal might be a good solution to organize your day as an applicant for drama school. STEP 4: CHOOSING ACTING MATERIAL If you search for script for a scene, it can be cinematic or theatrical, there are a lot of websites where you can have materials for your audition… it’s okay… But you need to be selective. Most people prefer to perform popular monologues because they think nobody would choose… they’re in the wrong… either not putting their emotions and passion into it, or simply memorizing lines without doing a depth study. Try to find YOUR monologue, that tells about ( nearly) yourself, and try to find a character similar to you so that you can have a ection with her-him. Analyze the scene alone or with your teacher and do a brainstorming. The best thing to do is take notes about characters and write all of them, analyzing from an objective and subjective point of view. STEP 5: REJECTION IS NORMAL Do not underrate this: HAVING A REJECTION IS NORMAL!!
