Domain Name Systems and Web Server Management, Exercises of Computer Science

An overview of the domain name system (dns), including its purpose, types of dns servers, and how it maps domain names to ip addresses. It also discusses the relationship between web communication protocols, operating systems, and web servers, as well as the factors that impact search engine results and the influence of search engines on website performance. Topics such as the hierarchical nature of dns, the role of primary, secondary, and caching dns servers, the importance of matching web server software with the operating system, and evidence-based strategies for improving a website's search engine optimization (seo) through content, metadata, and link-building. This comprehensive coverage of dns, web server management, and seo principles makes this document a valuable resource for students and professionals in the field of digital technologies, web design, and development.

Domain Name

Systems

How does it work?

DNS system works much like a phone book names and numbers are mapped. DNS servers translate requests for names into IP addresses, controlling which server an end user will reach when they type a domain name into their web browser. These requests are called queries. What is it?

  • (^) DNS is hierarchical naming system.
  • (^) It is a system through which internet domain names and addresses are regulated.
  • (^) It is used to identify computers that can be reached through the Internet.
  • (^) DNS keeps the record of all domain names and the associated IP addresses.
  • (^) When you type in a URL in your browser, DNS resolves the domain name into an IP address.
  • (^) Thus, DNS is a service that maps domain names to corresponding IP addresses.

Types of DNS Secondary servers are backup DNS Servers. Secondary servers receive all of their zone files from the primary server zone files in a zone transfer. Multiple secondary servers can exist for any given zone — as many as necessary to provide load balancing, fault tolerance, and traffic reduction Caching servers, also known as caching-only servers, perform as their name suggests; they provide only cached-query service for DNS responses. Rather than maintaining zone files like other secondary servers do, caching DNS Servers perform queries, cache the answers, and return the results to the querying client Purpose and types of DNS, and the organisation and management of domain names

The primary server is the authoritative server for the zone. It is a server that handles all administrative responsibilities of the zone.

Relationships Between Operating System and Web Server

The fundamental software on your server is the operating system. It is the basis on which everything else you use runs. Without an operating system, your server will not know how to communicate with the rest of the world Purpose of Server hardware and Web Server

  • Web server hardware is connected to the internet and allows data to be exchanged with other connected devices, while web server software controls how a user accesses hosted files.
  • (^) The web server process is an example of the client/server model. All computers that host websites must have web server software. Purpose and relationships between communication protocols and web server Thus, it is important that your Web Server software matches your Operating System. Some of the best hosting companies has Windows or Linux operating systems on their servers.

Search Engine Influence

  • Search engines essentially act as filters for the wealth of information available on the internet.
  • They allow users to quickly and easily find information that is of genuine interest or value, without the need to wade through numerous irrelevant web pages
  • A search engine is a software program that helps people find the information they are looking for online using keywords or phrases.
  • Search engines are able to return results quickly—even with millions of websites online—by scanning the Internet continuously and indexing every page they find. Review the influence of search engines on website performance and provide evidence-based support for improving a site’s index value and rank through search engine optimisation
