Programme: MBA TECH (EXTC) Year: IV Subject: Digital Voice and Broadband Communication Date: 06 November 2019 SVKM’s NMIMS MUKESH PATEL SCHOOL OF TECHNOLOGY MANAGEMENT & ENGINEERING Semester: VII Academic Year: 2019-20 Instructions: Candidates should read carefully the instructions printed on the question paper and on the cover of the Answer Book, which is provided for their use. 1) Question No. 1 is compulsory. 2) Out of remaining questions, attempt any 4 questions. 3) In all 5 questions to be attempted. 4) All questions carry equal marks. 5) Answer to each new question to be started on a fresh page. 6) Figures in brackets on the right hand side indicate full marks. 7) Assume -suitable data if necessary. Attempt any four: An exchange is designed to handle 2000 calls during the busy hour. One day, the number of calls during the busy hour is 2200. What is the resulting GOS (Grade of Service)? A subscriber loop of 22 km is to be supported from the exchange that uses a 40 V battery with a 500 Q short circuit protection resistance. The telephone system used has a resistance of 50 Q and draws a current of 20 mA. Determine the resistance of the wire in Q/km. Determine the switch advantage ratio for a three stage network with N inlets and N outlets when N= 512. Compare BRI and PRI services offered by N- ISDN. ‘A subscriber wants a broadband connectivity. What are the possible technologies available by which he/she can get this connectivity? Explain in brief with an example. Compare the three different types of codecs with respect to bit rate and speech quality. The following string of bits is to be transmitted “1100000000101000010110001”. Assume that the first two bits are transmitted as ‘+-’ and that the number of binary pulses transmitted before this string is odd. Show the bit patterns if the following line coding technique is used: 1. AMI 2. B3ZS 3. HDB3 14 (3.5) (3.5) G5) (3.5) (3.5) G.5) 1c) Page ‘ff 3
