 The poet tries to signify a commonality of experience, ‘we are all one, but broken', everyone disintegrated, but the identity as an American is so important.  There is an oscillation between “Him and reader” , “past, present and future”, “Nature and poet”.  The movement of a Ferry indicates the sailing of a boat in the mind.  The gap between the poet and reader becomes narrow. The experience that the poet has will be the same to the readers, which is common, which unites them as Americans.  The distance now becomes closer, he is now able to connect to them.
