about:blank Coursework International law This essay will begin by exploring what intemational law is and how it has developed over the centuries into a global legal system that places obligations and expectations on states. Furthermore, this essay will explain some of many different sources of international law to understand how intemational law has developed and how it is practised. Finally, this essay will consider the importance of intemational law in the international community, putting emphasis on how international law influences our daily lives and global transactions, and arguing that without international law there would be less global co-operation and advancements. Throughout this essay, the criticism argued by academics of intemational law will be considered to reach a balanced conclusion on why international law is important. International law comprises the rules and norms that regulate the actions of states and other entities which have international personality’. This system of law is concerned with, regulating the relationship between independent states, namely in respect of their diplomatic relations and the conduct of war’, and is concemed with promoting intemational co-operation. which is dependent on the political willingness of states?. International law is not a system imposed on States, rather itis a system founded on consent and an acceptance of States to limit some of their behaviour". The international law community is comprised of different States who have different cultural, social, and legal backgrounds; however, itis still generally complied with despite significant differences between states*, 1 Rebecca MM.
