Meanings & Definitions

  • The word ‘COMMUNISM’ came from Latin communis, 'Common, universal)'; The meaning of ‘COMMUNISM’ is a system in which goods are owned in common and are available to all as needed.
  • Communism is a political and economic philosophy and movement aimed at establishing a communist society, i.e. a socioeconomic order based on the ideals of common ownership of the means of production, the absence of social classes, money, and the state. Communism is a political and economic system that seeks to create a classless society in which the major means of production, such as mines and factories, are owned and controlled by the public.
  • Communism is closely associated with the ideas of German philosopher and economist Karl Marx, who outlined his ideas in The Communist Manifesto with Friedrich Engels in 1848. However, others have contributed to Marxist thought, including Soviet leader Vladimir Lenin, who supported authoritarianism. Types of Communism
  • Marxist Communism: This is the most well-known type, based on the ideas of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels. It envisions a society where the working class (proletariat) overthrows the capitalist class (bourgeoisie) and establishes a communist state. This state would eventually wither away, leading to a communist society.
  • Anarcho-Communism : This type rejects the idea of a centralized state and advocates for a society based on voluntary associations and communes. It emphasizes individual liberty and self-governance.
