instructors,
plant
operators
and
twenty
apprentices
selected
at
random. The interviews
were
held
during
the
recess
time,
lunch time and
over
the weekends.
Findings:
There
seems
to be a
widespread
unrest
among the
apprentices.
Several foremen
pointed
out
that the number
of
incidents
of
breach
of
discipline
had gone up
considerably.
The foremen
expressed
the view that the situation
was
deteriorating
and serious outbreak
of
misbehavior
might
result very
soon.
According
to
the
apprentices,
the number
of
supervisors
was
inadequate
and
they
had
to
clean and clear the machines left
dirty
by
the skilled
workmen.
They
also felt that the wages
paid
to
them
were
lowest in the
area.
Conclusion:
Immediate
action
must
be taken
to
prevent
further
disturbances.
There
is
evidence
to
believe that the
complaints
are
well-founded.
Regarding
pay and
allowances,
it
is
necessary
to
bring
to
the notice
of
the
apprentices
that
our
rates
compare
favorably
with those
paid
to
apprentices
in
other
similar units.
Recommendations:
The
following
suggestions
will
go
a
long
way in
reducing
the
discontent-

may
be
appointed
to
draw up a balanced
training
program.

All
supervisors
and skilled
workmen
must
be
strictly
instructed
to
keep
the
machinery
clean.
c.
The
Personnel
Officer
must
point
out
to
the
apprentices
that the
rates
of
the

enjoyed
by
them
are
higher
than those
paid
by
other
companies.
