Vocational Context
Play is the cornerstone of a child's learning and development and current practice has been influenced by a range of theories and approaches.
In Assignment 1 you analysed the success of these approaches and wrote how play provides positive outcomes for children's learning and development.
For you to be an effective Early Years Professional you will need to be able to plan and implement activities that promote play and learning effectively; a good practitioner will always reflect upon their experiences as part of their Continuing Professional Development, to try and improve the impact upon the children's learning and development.
Task 1
Following on from Assignment 1 you will now demonstrate that you can plan, implement and reflect upon a range of play and learning activities, as follows:
Plan and implement a total of four activities:
Select 2 age ranges in your work placement settings (birth up to one year 11 months, two years up to four years 11 months or five years up to seven years 11 months)
BTEC Assignment Brief v1.
For each age range you need to devise one child initiated activity and one adult-initiated activities and carry them out. (Making a total of four plans) These activities should show imagination and creativity to support and extend the children's learning.
The plans should follow an appropriate format, which could be used in your work placement setting.
Activities should be supported by a witness testimony as evidence of implementation.
These activities link directly with your placement experience and the activities you carry out should be cross-referenced to CPLD 1 and CPLD 2.
For Example: A play-dough activity with a 3 - year-old child, you could link it to: CPLD1; 1, 8, 10, 11, 23, 37, 49, 85.
Sharing a book with an 18-month old child would cover CPLD1; 11, 36, 48, 73, 75, 76.
Once you have completed the activities then write a reflective review which evaluates the skills that you used to support the children across the four activities and the positive impact of the activities on outcomes for the children.
Within this review make sure that you:
Cover each area of learning and each are of development within your review.
Assess your strengths in carrying out these activities and any limitations in your skills, giving realistic recommendations for how you could improve. This may be linked to the witness testimonies.
Give reasons why strategies for supporting the children in the activities were chosen and reflect upon if you had to alter them from your planned approach. How did the strategies promote the children's involvement in the activity and increase their enjoyment? Were there different skills needed to support the child-initiated and the adult-initiated play and how were these important to the children's play?
