Automation In India: India is one of the fastest-growing countries in the world and is developing new technologies day by day. The technologies related to automation, artificial intelligence, IT services are the leading changes happening in Indian industries. Most of the manufacturing industries are going from manual operations to robot operated or automated services. Indian shop floor is going smart by adapting technology and cutting cost to boosting productivities. The best example of industry to adopt automation is Thermax Ltd., which fully automated all of its 14 plants in India and is ahead of the competition in their sector. Automation helped them to reduce process cycle from 40 days to 15days. According managing director of Thermax, The initial process of manual handling was complicated and time taking for creating algorithm for processes. Now, after automation, it not only reduced the processing time but also improved the quality of products. Conventional wisdom tells that automation will cut down jobs. But, Indian automation industry is expected to touch $3.2 billion by 2020, and the manufacturing industry, which will be adopting it will create 90 million jobs. The industries which are adopting the automation include automative, chemical and mining. These are innovating new technologies and improving process efficiencies to delivering the best product to consumer. Consumer good makers adopted Internet of Things (IOT) to track processes and deployed robots on shop floors while automotive industries are using augmented reality or virtual reality to train employees especially workers working on complicated processes. In some production processes, handheld devices or digital platforms are being used for defining methods and machine design drawing. L&T, the biggest giant in construction industry in India has adopted the digital transformation in the construction business, which covers is 60% of their overall turnover. They connected all their 9600 pieces of equipment over 400 sites spread over the country at central location to keep track and visibility. It increased the operation efficiency tremendously. Another example of the automotive industry to adopt automation is M&M, which has covers the 70% of body shop by robotic processes. Also embracing this technology need skilled workers for which they have integrated type of training provided as assumed that enabling robotic processes will lead to job cut, but reality, no such things are happening. Actually, handling this process, equal workforce requires and providing enough jobs to people. One of the technologies adopted by Indian industries is 3D prototyping. This technology is playing important role in the manufacturing industry as it provides the most accurate products reducing all the defects. 3D printing enables companies to test the prototype without incurring much of cost and experimenting for getting the better result. Another Example of adopting to this automation technology is biggest giant Reliance Industries Ltd. RIL is heavily investing virtual reality platforms which will be useful in the training of employees, more interactive environment in company and testing of improved safety and reliability. Along with manufacturing industries, some e-commerce businesses, banking sector and IT industries are investing in automation for better customer service. Currently Indian market is
one of the biggest markets for automation as it is providing more facilities and opportunities to grow for the future.
