AFERI R TRIANGLE

The anterior triangle is present between the sternocleidomastoid muscle and the median

of (^) the neck SURface Landmarks :

  1. The mandible forms the lower (^) jaw. It lower border is horseshoe (^) shaped and is

called base of the jaw. Anteriorly forms the chin and can be traced back

forming the^ angle^ of^ jaw.

  1. (^) U-shaped (^) hyoid bone is (^) present below and behind the^ chin (^) ,^ in^ the median^ plane. Body of^ hyoid is^ continuous^ posteriorly with^ the^ greater cornua^ which^ is^ overlapped

in its posterior part by the^ sternocleidomastoid muscle.

  1. (^) laryngeal prominence or Adams (^) apple is formed (^) by the (^) thyroid cartilage of (^) the larynx in^ the^ median^ plane^ ,^ just^ below^ the^ hyoid bone.
  2. The circoid^ cartilage lies below (^) thyroid cartilage at^ the^ upper end^ of the^ trachea

5. The trachea runs downwards and backwards from the circoid muscle. It can be

felt (^) by the (^) cartiliganous rings. It is (^) partially masked^ by the isthmus of (^) thyroid gland. Trachea is (^) palpated at (^) suprasternal notch which is (^) present in^ between the^ tendino

  • us heads of (^) right left sternocleidomastoid muscles.

Structures in Interior median Region of neck :

features :^ it^ is^ a^ 2-3^ cm^ long^ strip^ extending^ from^ the^ chin^ to^ the^ sternum skin :^ it is (^) freely movable over the (^) deep structures due to (^) looseness of (^) superficial fascia. superficial 1.^.^ It^ contain^ decusating fibres^ of^ platysma^ just^ below^ chin fascia :^2.^ It^ contains^ anterior^ jugular veins^ beginning in^ submental^ region,^ below^ the^ chin.^ It

descends the superficial fascia from the median plane just above the sternum

it (^) pierces the (^) investing layer of (^) deep cervical fascia to enter (^) sternal (^) space where it is (^) joined (^) by fellow (^) opposite side^ by a transverse channel (^) ,^ the^ jugular venous

arch. Then it turns laterally enters sternocleidomastoid just above the clavicle to

end in the external jugular vein.

3 .Sternal lymph nodes^ may be present just below the chin

4. Terminal filaments of transverse and anterior cutaneous nerves may be present.

-deep (^) fascia :^ Above^ the^ hyoid bone^ the^ investing layer of^ deep fascia^ is^ a^ single layer after which (^) they split and encloses the submandibular (^) salivary glands. Between (^) hyoid and^ circoid^ cartilage it is a (^) single (^) layer extending blu^ right I

left sternocleidomastoid^ muscle.

Below circoid^ cartilage it^ splits and encloses the sternal space.
