Liquid Crystal Thermography: Problems and Objectives, Slides of Mechanical Engineering

The objectives and problems for module 6 of liquid crystal thermography (lct). It covers topics such as determination of temperature from rgb data, sensitivity of lct to curved surfaces, measurement of wall shear stress, and determination of heat transfer coefficients for various heating conditions.

Problems

Problems

1. Discuss determination of temperature from red, color, and blue data recorded from a sheet of liquid

crystals. The first approach is via the construction of hue. Discuss alternative approaches wherein temperature can be determined by using all three values of R, G, and B.

2. Discuss the sensitivity of LCT measurement of temperature when the sheet is glued to a curved

surface. Here, the color response would depend on both, the positions of the light source and the camera.

3. Discuss the measurement of wall shear stress in boundary flow using liquid crystal thermography.

Distinguish between gas flows and liquid flows. Plot imaginatively, the color variation that would be obtained in the following situations: (i) flat plate at zero angle of incidence, (ii) stagnation point flows, and (iii) aerofoil geometries.
